Peru started the Under 23 Pre-Olympic Tournament with a 1-0 victory over Chile with a score by Franchesco Flores. The red and white team knew how to remain solid in the defensive line with an outstanding performance by the goalkeeper Diego Romero.
The goalkeeper from Universitario de Deportes prevented rival goals on repeated occasions and was chosen as the player of the match.
“We all ran, we all scored and this is the effort of the entire group. “This is a short championship and the most important thing is the group,” Romero told DirecTV Sports.
“We prepared for the match for several days, happily the victory was achieved,” he added.
Finally, he said that they will focus on the next rival. “Now we turn the page thinking about the rival that is coming.”
The Peruvian team will face Argentina this Wednesday the 24th, on the second day of Group B. The albicelestes debuted with a 1-1 draw against Paraguay.
