Gareca on his departure from the national team: “It is something that the president and the sports director of the FPF have to answer”

Ricardo Garecaformer technician of the peruvian team of football, today in charge of the Chile team, spoke about his departure from the Bicolor and why his continuity at the head of everyone’s team was not given.

In an interview with journalist Milena Merino, from the program Up my people (Latina), the ‘Tigre’, already presented as the new coach of the Chilean national team, noted that his non-renewal with Peru was due to a matter of “forms.”

It is something that the president (of the FPF, Agustín Lozano) has to answer more than anything, the sports director (Juan Carlos Oblitas). It’s something they have to answer. The decision (not to continue in Peru) was strictly due to forms. They understand in a way that that was the way to negotiate and I understood that it was not the way to negotiate. “I didn’t want to know anything more, I ran (away), in a way that doesn’t suit my way of being,” Gareca indicated.

He added that he decided to accept the offer from the Chilean team “due to the fact that so much time has passed (since he left Peru) and that Chile showed significant interest in contacting us.”

“We liked the way they spoke to us, the intentions they had until they reached a point of agreement,” he added.

Ricardo Gareca also spoke about the sports rivalry that exists between Peru and Chile.

So many years there in Peru, I know it is a classic, but so much time has passed, I left the country more than a year and a half ago and two coaching staffs have already passed (Juan Reynoso and now Jorge Fossati). The eight-year process that took place in the selection, now the selection is going for the second coaching staff. From there, we considered it an opportunity to work on the selection. “Beyond the fact that it is a classic, we liked the seriousness with which Chile spoke to us, more than anything,” he remarked.
