The hard life story of Cecilio Waterman, the new ‘goal man’ of Alianza Lima

Although his arrival in Lima Alliance generated certain doubts among a sector of the blue and white fans, the Panamanian Cecilio Waterman32 years old, has shown with effort and goals that, quite contrary to what many thought, he can be very useful to the La Victoria team, which this year will fight to become national champion again.

Waterman, also international with his country’s national team, has scored two goals with the Alliance shirt in the same number of official matches played. His first score was in his debut in the League 1 I bet you in view of Cesar Vallejo Universityin Limeand his most recent goal was against Athletic Alliancein the hot Sullana.

With two goals to his name and a lot of sweat from the wear and tear he puts into the matches, Waterman has become one of the players most applauded by Victorian fans.

Life was always complicated for Cecilio Waterman. In 2021, when he played in the University of Concepción, one of the cheerleaders of Chilean soccer, the Panamanian striker gave an interview to the newspaper Third, in which he revealed little-known aspects of his personal and family life.

My mother abandoned me when I was little. I looked for her for many years and two or three years ago I just met her, but we never spoke about her again. Life has ups and downs, but in my case there have been more bad moments than good. “I’m already used to fighting.” Cecilio said in that note, when he was 29 years old.

But that wasn’t all, as the player continued telling how difficult life was for him when he was a child.

I have 10 siblings and I always remember that my dad sent us to school with only money for the ticket. When recess started, all I had to do was watch my classmates eat. You must never forget where you come from. In life you have to grow and always move forward, what do we get by getting discouraged and throwing everything away?he added.

Cecilio also talked about other more entertaining topics such as, for example, the origin of his unique last name or the nickname his teammates gave him.

I know that people appreciate me and have affection for me, so they can call me whatever they want. My last name is unusual and they call me from the water man to the wet man, but I don’t even know the reason. In the group they bother me and say Lukaku (for the Belgium player), but he makes me laugh and I take it with humor,” the Panamanian said.

Cecilio Waterman is now getting ready to play on Saturday, February 10 against University of Sports, in the Peruvian soccer classic, for the third date of the Apertura Tournament of League 1 I Bet You. The match will begin at 8 pm and will take place at the National Stadium of Lima.
