A new start for the legendary Reims-Gueu motorway

On Tuesday evening, the municipal council of this small Marne town of 2,000 people selected the Circuit Reims Gueux Passion Légende association in a tender to manage its circuit.

A relief for the entire municipal team after months of tension and litigation. Effective July 12, 2023, the council decided to terminate the agreement with the Association of Friends of the Circuit Gué (ACG) after numerous disagreements regarding the management of the Terres du Circuit.

This agreement allowed them, in particular, to organize events and continue the restoration of historical stands and stands. Since 2009, volunteers have worked closely with the municipality for almost 20 years to restore this architectural monument. At a meeting on Tuesday evening, the ACG association’s nomination was rejected due to the file being deemed “incomplete”.

The site “remains available free of charge”

“This is the end of an incredible story for which the city has nothing to reproach itself with. We have made a choice that allows us to move beyond this conflict and work peacefully. Our priority is to maintain this site and ensure a quality reception for its visitors,” assures Mayor Jean-Pierre Ronso. Therefore, after eighteen years of presence, ACG will have to leave. And if the association turns out to be recalcitrant, the mayor has already warned: from February 14, eviction proceedings may be initiated.

The agreement with the new structure will become official from March 1, 2024. The latter is already considering new projects for the track, including major celebrations to mark the track’s centenary in 2026. Priority will also be focused on creating “visitor parking”. But now the mayor’s office would like to note that the site “remains available free of charge, as before.”

Only large gatherings will require payment of an entry fee. Remember that every year thousands of car enthusiasts from all over the world come to this legendary track where Argentine racing driver Fangio lived out his glory days.
