The NFL Super Bowl holds much more than the fight between the Kansas City Chiefs, ready to establish their dynasty, and the San Francisco 49ers hungry for revenge.

Interest in the first NFL final in Las Vegas has crossed the borders of sport with the famous romance between pop superstar Taylor Swift and the charismatic Travis Kelce, a figure of the Chiefs, a real jackpot for the league’s coffers. American.

The Swift-Kelce phenomenon skyrocketed the ratings of the season and on Sunday could help shatter the record of 115.1 million viewers who followed the last Super Bowl, in which the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles.

It is expected that the singer, who performs on Saturday in Japan, can arrive in time to support her partner at the Allegiant Stadium (65,000 seats), where she will monopolize much of the spotlight.

In addition to Swift, a collection of celebrities will witness the Chiefs’ attempt to be the first franchise to retain the title in two decades, which would be their third crown in the last five seasons.

Las Vegas, a venue banned until recently by the NFL and now converted into the sports capital of the United States, is brimming with expectation in the days before the game.

The Federal Aviation Administration estimated that about 500 private jets will land in this city in the Nevada desert on the occasion of the game, while local authorities predict an influx of more than 300,000 visitors this weekend.

The horde of tourists will fill casinos, nightclubs and parties organized by celebrities, in addition to concerts by stars installed in the city such as U2, Adele, Christina Aguilera and Green Day.

Those lucky enough to have gotten a ticket to the Super Bowl, whose halftime show will be hosted by R&B star Usher, will have had to invest a good amount of money.

On the ticketing website Stubhub, the cheapest seats available were $5,542 and the most expensive were $56,700.

The American Gaming Association expects about 67 million Americans — about a quarter of the country’s adult population — to place bets related to the Super Bowl, generating an estimated $23.1 billion.

In the midst of all this maelstrom, the Chiefs and 49ers will meet again in a Super Bowl that has all the ingredients to become a classic.

Despite having had an irregular year, Kansas City has imposed its hierarchy in the playoffs and is determined to consolidate itself as a dynasty with a third Vince Lombardi trophy after its victories in 2020 and 2023.

Their absolute leader, Patrick Mahomes, can join Tom Brady, Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman as the only quarterbacks to win three or more Super Bowls.

The franchise would also be the first to retain the title since Brady’s New England Patriots did so between 2003 and 2004.

“That group of teams that have repeated the title have gone down in history as some of the greats,” Kelce recalled this week. “And I have wanted this more than I have wanted to win a Super Bowl in my life.”

The final will be a repeat of the 2020 Super Bowl, when Mahomes led a fourth-quarter comeback to beat San Francisco 31-20.

For their part, the 49ers are one of the most emblematic teams in the NFL, with five Super Bowls in their showcase, but they are going through a title drought that has lasted since 1995.

San Francisco was better than Kansas City in the regular phase, finishing as the leader of the National Conference, but in the playoffs it has shown serious cracks, needing hard-fought victories to beat the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.

Their quarterback, Brock Purdy, is only in his second season in the league after being chosen by the 49ers with the last pick of the 2022 draft.

That position earned him the derogatory nickname “Mr. Irrelevant” but Purdy was able to earn first the starting job and then the respect of the entire league.

At 24 years old, the quarterback lacks the experience of Mahomes but will have a greater offensive arsenal at his disposal, which includes running back Christian McCaffrey, chosen on Thursday as the best offensive player of the year, and other great threats such as George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk.
