Between 2012 and 2018, 28 cyclists were killed on Paris roads. 13 of them under similar circumstances: after a collision with a heavy vehicle, be it a truck with or without a trailer, bus or truck.
These tragedies reflect one of the deadliest dangers for urban cyclists: the blind spots of vehicles that lack visibility. “It’s like putting an elephant in a china shop,” says Louis Belenfant, director of Collectif Vélo Ile-de-France and the Ile-de-France branch of the association Mieux se Déplacer à Bicyclette (MDB).
No breaks on the bike path
If these blind spots kill cyclists every year, then other dangers await cyclists in Paris. Doors carelessly opened by rushing motorists and their passengers are one of the most common accidents.
On the bike path, squatting scooters, poorly parked vehicles and refusal to yield also threaten pedal bikers where they feel most protected.
In the third episode of Biclou you will take a tour of the capital to prevent the most common dangers when riding a bicycle together with the association, YouTuber Altis and the victims. A concentrate of excellence for a more relaxed pedaling experience! All our tips are in the episode shown above.
