BIKLU, EPISODE 25. It is a day of celebration for Christian and Christiana. A big red bicycle awaits them in front of the nursing home in La Verriere (Yvelines). Several times a month, volunteers from the association A Vélo Sans Âge take them for a ride through the forest on this electric tricycle.
“Quiet, and then green”
“It’s great, they make us smile again,” Christian admits as he rides, sitting calmly on the seat of this fun bike. “It’s quiet, and then there’s greenery, fresh air,” adds 90-year-old Christiane. Although the frequency of visits to nursing homes varies depending on health conditions, exercise in the fresh air is especially appreciated.
Every week on the Le Parisien Facebook page you will find a new episode of our Biclu series.
The association “À Vélo Sans Âge” was born in Denmark in 2012. Ole Kassow created it to pay tribute to his father. “He’s been in a wheelchair all his life,” he explains to our camera as he rides his bike around his city of Copenhagen. “I wanted to do for older people what I couldn’t do for my father at the time.”
