The 13-year-old died on Saturday afternoon after feeling unwell during a football match in Sens (Yonne), the Yonne district sports association de Football said, confirming information from France Bleu Auxerre.

The young player from Onze Saint-Clement was taking part in a match against Jeunesse Senonese in the under-15 category when he complained of chest pain mid-match. Immediately driving to the Fosse aux Cows field in San, the boy lost consciousness a few minutes later.

Among hundreds of messages of support on social media from anonymous and amateur football clubs, professional club Auxerre (Ligue 2) said it was “distraught” and expressed its “most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim.”

On Monday from 18:00 in the public hall of Saint-Clément a psychological chamber will be open for those attending the match, the Yonne football district announced.
