Match-fixing in Peruvian soccer: president of Conar recognizes cases

Cases of match-fixing have been recorded in Peruvian soccer, acknowledged the president of the National Commission of Referees (Conar), Carmen Retuerto.

A referee with international experience is no longer officiating and three others are being investigated for complaints about match-fixing, he indicated in a recent interview with Latina.

“Yes, in 2021 we received a complaint from a FIFA referee. We proceeded to send the information to the Ethics and Integrity Commission of the Peruvian Football Federation. The judge was suspended from his duties until the investigation is completed and the case is resolved. After that, he was left out of CONAR,” he said.

And in 2022 complaints were also filed. “There were five cases that were referred to the same area. Of these, two have been acquitted and the other three remain under investigation. We have not yet received a resolution, but they are not on the CONAR list at this time either,” Retuerto added.

El Comercio learned that the complaints involve League 2 and Copa Perú matches. However, the referees were directing League 1 when they were denounced.
