Quispe is excited and Paolo scores his historic 40th goal: UnoxUno of Peru’s victory over the Dominican Republic to begin the Fossati era in peace

To understand the ages:

To understand the validity:

Today, on the front pages announcing the 4-1 win, the news is that while the ‘Predator’ finally reached his 40th goal with PeruQuispe signed his first score with the selection. The embrace of the Alliance heart and the hope of the creamy claw, the dreamers will say.

The visible face of the generational change coincided with the nostalgia and trajectory for Peru to finish a double date with two victories, six goals in favor and more than one uncomfortable conclusion. We win, but we don’t like each other. We scored, but we didn’t enjoy it. We look askance at how our neighbors are doing in the Qualifiers. That Chile played against France, that Colombia returned with two victories from Europe (Spain and Romania), that Venezuela and Ecuador tested themselves against Italy.

And we? We had 15 overwhelming minutes in Matute against a distracted Nicaragua and, yesterday against the Dominican Republic, the complicity of the 150th team in the FIFA Ranking to score again after a year and a half (4-1 equal to El Salvador). Of course, for the battered national pride, it can be understood that it is better to beat two weak rivals than to continue without scoring a goal in the Qualifiers.

Whatever the reading of the game, this first double date with Jorge Fossati on the bench has culminated with the numbers in blue. He tried two different elevens in Matute and Monumental, and in between it was possible to see which players have been able to apply as starters in both the Copa América and this year’s Qualifiers.

How did we see the second team that Fossati fielded? Here are some answers.

The OnexOne

Pedro Gallese (4): He was spending a night without complications until Jean Carlos López (58′) surprised him with a powerful shot. Could you have done more? Yes, there was a weak response from the Orlando City goalkeeper. In other interventions it was not required.

Aldo Corzo (5): He was seen with poise on the court, showing that he has experience in the same position where he plays for the ‘U’. He never disappoints with the Bicolor.

Anderson Santamaría (5): He was the central defender we most wanted to see on this double date. His years in Liga MX with Atlas are noticeable. Solvency and effectiveness, although Dominican attacked little and was not an opponent that complicated too much.

Luis Abram (5): He also did not have any problems against a team that relied on friction and physical effort in each divided ball. He will have to fight for the position with Callens, who at this moment is one step above him in terms of the number of games played in his club.

Luis Advíncula (6): Through his sector, Peru’s best dangerous plays were created. Confident in defense and fast in attack, the Peruvian captain. However, if tomorrow were the debut of the Copa América, Andy Polo would be the owner of the position.

Marcos López (4): Much more was expected of him. He did not make a difference in a tactical system that should bring out the best level of play from him. Much to improve.

Jesús Castillo (5): He is in charge of giving freshness to a position where the starters will be Renato Tapia or Pedro Aquino. He scored a great goal from mid-range, but he still hasn’t stood out with a great performance.

Sergio Peña (5): Scored 1-0 in complicity with goalkeeper Baumann. If he puts on the ’10’, he is required to lead the team, and this time – as in his last 10 games with Peru – he did not comply.

Piero Quispe (7): As in the 2023 champion ‘U’, he teamed up with Flores and scored his first goal with Peru. He showed glimpses of football that is on the rise. The leap in quality that he made between League 1 and Mexican soccer is being noticed little by little. In just over three, the demand will be greater in the Copa América and it is urgent that a greater projection be noted.

Edison Flores (5): Without a reference ‘9’ it was difficult for him to combine in attack with Reyna. Of course, he gave the team’s tenth assist in 71 games played.

Bryan Reyna (5): Bold and mobile. He gave signs of the progress that is playing in the Argentine league. He doesn’t run at split balls against tough defenses like yesterday. Accompanied by a center forward, perhaps, his level of play can be better noted.

Substitutes

José Rivera (4) The best of his performance was causing the penalty that closed the night with the 4-1.

Gianluca Lapadula (5) The offensive weight is noticeable when he is on the court. He was not decisive as against Nicaragua, but it is assumed that in the 3-5-2 he will be the starting center forward.

Paolo Guerrero (5) Appeared from a penalty to put the cherry on top of this double date where Peru scored six goals in total. César Vallejo’s scorer scored 40 goals with the Peruvian team.

Oliver Sonne: He had some minutes as a right winger, but he was not noticed too much in the game.
