Ligue 1: Hexagoal trophy will disappear

He is an important figure in our championship who will say goodbye to us at the end of the season, and this time we are not talking about Kylian Mbappe. In fact, this season will be the last at the end of which a French title-winning club will lift the Hexagoal, a Ligue 1 trophy since 2007, which will therefore be replaced next season as part of the visual identity overhaul decided by the LFP.

The overhaul began this Wednesday with the appearance of a new logo for our championship. A logo that intertwines the letters “L” and “1” and makes no mention of the trophy, which has nonetheless been central to each iteration of the visual identity since 2008. “We could not change the logo and the Trophy should not be changed,” Jerome Casadier, senior director of marketing and editorial work at LFP Media, confirms to Parisian. The Ligue 1 trophy is in its final season. »

“Hexagol lived well”

We are told that a general refresh of Ligue 1’s visual codes is warranted, freeing itself from the symbols of the past. The desire of the League was to emphasize this 1, characteristic of Ligue 1, unifying and “possessory”. “The challenge of promoting the championship brands desired by the League made it difficult to further develop the existing logo,” explains Dominique Joubert, director of the Leroy-Tremblot studio, which created the new visual style. Especially Hexagoal, who lived well. »

For now look Hexagoal’s successor is still unknown. “This work will be completed in due time,” stresses Casadier. A new logo, a new trophy, a new name and undoubtedly a new broadcaster yet to be determined, this is a big page that is being turned for Ligue 1. Overall, the Hexagoal, its majestic hexagonal-shaped ball, has therefore seen the hands of seven different clubs in 17 years (Lyon, Bordeaux, Marseille, Montpellier, Lille, PSG and Monaco).
