Saint-Ouen: The Olympic village keeps its symbol in the form of the football player Socrates

Former Brazilian playmaker Rai was welcomed to Saint-Ouen (Seine-Saint-Denis) on Saturday morning. Not only because in the 1990s he was the symbolic captain of PSG. Footballer Auriverde was the guest of honor at the first opening of the street in the Olympic village under construction. She is named after her older brother Socrates, who died in 2011.

This football legend had an aura that went far beyond the world of football. “Doctor Socrates” was an example of “Corinthian democracy”, a way of running a Brazilian football club through self-government. The democratic “method” became a political movement forty years ago, when the country was under dictatorship.
