Swimming: Leon Marchand will follow his coach Bob Bowman to Texas

The question is being asked: According to Swimswam media, Leon Marchand is set to follow Bob Bowman to Texas. The American coach announced Tuesday that he is leaving Arizona State University, which became the NCAA champion this Saturday, to join Austin.

Leon Marchand swam for three seasons at the University of Arizona. Therefore, the Frenchman should settle in Texas at least until the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. At 21, a five-time world champion (in the 200 m medley in 2022 and 2023, 400 m medley in the same years and 200 m butterfly in 2023) aims to collect multiple Olympic medals this summer.

Hubert Kos also leaves in his coach’s suitcases

There remains a small question regarding the future status of Leon Marchand. At the moment, the Frenchman has the status of a university athlete, but if he moves he can become a professional. Hungarian Hubert Kos, last year’s world champion in the 200m backstroke and Leon Marchand’s teammate at Arizona State, also decided to follow Bob Bowman’s lead.

The 58-year-old American coach notably coached Michael Phelps, the most decorated man in Olympic history (28 medals, including 23 gold). But he said at a news conference that he will continue to coach Arizona State swimmers until the Americans qualify for the June 15 Olympics in Indianapolis.
