Traditionally it is a strong image of the Olympic Games that travels around the world and leaves an impression. As with all games, the Rings of Paris will take place in one of the most emblematic places of Paris and France. According to our information, five intertwined rings – blue, yellow, black, green and red – will be installed on the Eiffel Tower, symbolizing the 5 continents participating in the Games. They should be placed high, about 60 meters from the ground, between the first and second floors.
A strong image, while the Eiffel Tower was already at the center of the presentation of the slogan “made for sharing” in February 2017, when Paris was only a candidate to organize the Olympic Games.
The monument, one of the most visited in the world, the decoration of which will serve as the final stage of the opening ceremony, will also feature Olympic and Paralympic medals, whose creator, the House of Chaumet, added a metal insert, cut into the shape of a hexagon, in the center.
However, according to our information, the rings were made thanks to ArcelorMittal, a leader in steel production, as part of a partnership with Paris 2024. ArcelorMittal worked for two years to create the rings, which are 29 meters wide and 15 meters high. For the torch that will cross France after the Olympic flame arrives in Marseille on May 8, ArcelorMittal used 100% recycled steel produced in France. The design and casting of the steel was carried out at ArcelorMittal’s Châteauneuf (Loire) plant, rolling in Dunkirk (North) and production in Grand-Eust. Installation of 5 rings promises to be spectacular.
In London in 2012, five giant Olympic rings were installed on Tower Bridge, a historic London building overlooking the Thames. In Tokyo, displayed at the Odaiba Naval Base, they lit up after dark, offering a magnificent view of Tokyo and the Rainbow Bridge. We don’t yet know when the rings will take their place on the Eiffel Tower. Usually the event occurs in the last stretch, several weeks before it. In Rio, two weeks before the competition, the opening of five rings took place on the famous Copacabana beach.
