Paris 2024 Olympics: athlete Just Kwaw-Mathey withdraws from games due to ruptured Achilles tendon

A new blow for French athletics after Dimitri Bascou’s positive test earlier in the week. It’s just that Kwaw-Matie just announced this Friday on his Instagram story that he underwent surgery for a torn Achilles tendon.

An injury sustained during his preparatory training camp in Dubai. “The comeback starts now. Let’s work hard to come back stronger than ever,” wrote the reigning French 60m hurdles champion.

Four months before the Paris Olympics, the injury is his most serious yet and marks the departure of Just Kwaw-Mathey as the recovery time from a ruptured Achilles heel can be lengthy. “I can cope with all difficulties thanks to Christ, who gives me strength,” the athlete wrote positively on Instagram. The Parisian has made the Paris Games his goal and has only gained momentum in recent months.

Third at the European Championships in the 110m hurdles in 2022, Kwaw-Matie repeated last year’s 60m in Istanbul. He recently won bronze over the same distance during the World Indoor Championships in a distance of 7″ 47″, having set a personal best of 7″ 43″ at the Lieven meeting.

In the 110m hurdles he set his personal best of 13″09″ in June 2023. It was in Paris. A city where he won’t end up shining this summer.
