The Sub 20 defeats Uruguay and qualifies for the hexagonal: prize for playing with the heart | CHRONICLE

The hug of the girls is the hug that the country should give not only to them, but to the discipline. The victory of the women’s Sub 20 is the request of this generation to look at them and bet on them for their talent and for the future vision that is needed for projects like these.

Because with Birka Ruiz run the dreams not only of the 22 summoned, but also of the girls who today are deciding whether to continue hitting the ball and of those who have already made the step and did not find the opportunities to grow, but who in these joys find the reward for the path they marked.

The U20 women’s team beat Uruguay 2-1 and qualified for the final hexagonal of the South American Championship for the second time in its history, passing after seven editions. The only time it was achieved was in 2006 – it was the final home run at that time – and they had to wait 18 years to celebrate again.

And with seven points, Bicolor secures a place among the top three in Group A, leaving out Uruguay and Ecuador. In a single tournament, in four games, the Peruvian Sub 20 achieved the same number of units as those accumulated in the last seven editions. Only in 2006 did it also add 7 units in the first phase.

TO PLAY

And it wins because it was effective. Because after holding on for the entire first half, she struck on the first play of the second half: a run from the right by Birka Ruiz for the center to the head of Valerie Gherson.

And if there are no muscles, there is heart to take care of the result. Because Peru played its fourth game in just seven days (it only had to rest on the last date, Friday). To defend the advantage, from the security provided by goalkeeper Lucía Arcos – born in Spain -, the secure control of Mía León – also coming from the Motherland, the deployment of Melanny Mondaca, the delivery of Birka. They all gave theirs.

Because with the ball, Mía and Melanny always play with discretion. They look for a safe pass and play in space to take advantage of the runs of Sashenka and Birka. And so came the second goal: a long pass from Mia to Birka, and the attacker ran and ran again and this time it was she who scored for 2-0.

And it was time to continue defending. And there the goalkeeper Arcos came into her own, despite the discount in the final minutes.

The team of Jaqueline Ucella, Emily Lima’s assistant in the major, celebrated between tears and many emotions. They have made history with their passage to the second phase and they are going for more.

The hexagonal gives four places for the World Cup in Colombia in the middle of the year, but if the coffee makers – today they are qualifying in group B – manage to be among those first four, fifth place will also be World Cup. Dreaming is not difficult, and these girls make you daydream.
