It is everyone’s dream and especially Kimberly Garcia’s. Her goal made her choose marching when she was just a little girl who watched the Olympic Games on TV with her father. This is what brought her to the fore as the flag bearer of the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010.
“I tell people that I am training hard, putting in all my effort because I want to leave Peru’s name at the top,” he told us in a last interview with El Comercio last December.
Kimberly García wins the 20km of the World Team Walking Championships in Antalya. Evelyn Inga, after a penalty, was fourth. Mary Luz Andía, tenth.

His goal is set at the Olympic Games. On the medal. He competed in Rio 2016 and was top 15. He went to Tokyo 2020 and did not do well, which made him think about retirement. But the Olympic dream was always stronger and after a month of stopping, he decided to continue taking the steps towards Olympus.
Today it is closer than ever. “I miss the Olympic medal. Now that I am doing very well, that I am having the results that I have dreamed of so much, it makes me dream even more about Paris. I know I can do it,” she says for Olympics. Kimberly does not hide her desire, she constantly expresses it, it is her way of getting motivated from her.
And in three years he has achieved five world medals. She has always remained in the top position in each event in which she has performed and that keeps the Olympic dream present.
His first world medal was at the World Championships in Muscat (Oman) in March 2022 with the bronze medal in the 20km. He then arrived in Golden July in Eugene with the gold medals in the 20km and 35km. For 2023 she touched Budapest and was fourth in the 20km and the silver medal in the 20km.

“We want to be a power in athletic walking. In Paris, the 20km is my main goal,” she said this morning for the Atletismo Peruano portal after crossing the finish line in Antalya. He knows that glory is near and he marches towards it.
And the pressure of three decades without winning medals and the fact that Peru has only won four medals in history does not weigh on him. On the contrary, he reads the messages they leave him and becomes more motivated. “The pressure is more on me than on the expectations of others,” she says as a final message.
