PSG-Lyon Women (1-2): Despite elimination, Grace Geyoro ensures that “we must keep our heads high”

The Parisians will not play in the Champions League final on May 21 in Turin. Having already lost in Lyon in the first semi-final match (2-3), they lost again in the return leg (1-2) this Saturday night, despite a good performance overall. We will especially regret the lack of performance of the players under the leadership of Didier Ollet-Nicol, which was rightly noted by the logically disappointed captain Grace Geyoro at the post-match press conference.

Isn’t it even more disappointing to be kicked out after such a performance?

GRACE GEYORO. Obviously we are disappointed because we gave everything. We showed some play, we had the ball. But excellence is in the details, and we missed too many opportunities. Our journey, despite everything, is wonderful, we are proud of what we managed to do. We wanted this qualification, we gave it 100%. Despite the disappointment, we must keep our heads held high.

Compared to last year against Barcelona, do you think the qualification is even closer and do you see an evolution in general?

This Saturday evening we were having a hard time again. But it’s true that we probably had a harder time managing them in the past. There we knew how to do it. We got the ball when we needed it, but they scored from a set piece, although we had chances before that. At this level, I repeat, everything comes down to details.

Did the fans’ support inspire you?

This really pushed us. They were there from start to finish, as usual. We wanted to show very beautiful faces to all the people who push us. Seeing them continue to sing from start to finish warmed our hearts and I still hope they leave with good memories.

Given everything that has happened off the pitch this season, especially with Khaira Hamraoui, does it carry emotional weight in the dressing room?

We’ve had a difficult season, we know that. But all players are competitors, we had to put that aside. Here’s what we did. If we succeed in this journey, it is because we put everything aside to focus on our goals.
