PSG Women: Despite Chelsea’s coercion, Grace Geyoro must stay

France’s Euro 2022 semi-finalist (2-1 defeat to Germany) Grace Geyoro is not expected to return to England immediately. After a well-deserved vacation, the PSG captain returned to her club last Saturday to begin preparations for the season. And unless changes happen, the midfielder will not be leaving the capital this summer, despite strong interest from Chelsea.

The London club, a finalist in the 2021 Champions League, presented the 25-year-old with an ambitious project. He also offered PSG an unprecedented transfer offer: half a million euros. Both organizations exchanged views, but Parisian leaders told Chelsea that Grace Geyoro was not transferable.

“She is priceless,” they say at PSG about the midfielder, who arrived in 2012 at the age of 15, like Rouge and Blue. Moreover, finding a replacement for him would be an almost impossible task. Partial to the Blues’ approach, Geyoro took note for later. Extended last December until June 2024 with PSG, the French international (53 caps) is still playing for his favorite club.

She doesn’t know yet whether she will become captain.

The main question of the season is his role as captain. Appointed last season by Didier Ollet-Nicol, Geyoro does not yet know whether she will retain the armband under Gerard Precher. “I haven’t made a choice yet,” he said at a news conference last week. That’s the question. I would discuss this with her. It is possible to say that we are starting from scratch. She is currently the captain. (…) Logic dictates that it will be Grace. But we can discuss it.”

Received in her home country last week by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, Grace Geyoro returned from vacation only a few days ago.

But purely physically she will not play on Tuesday night against Manchester United in the first pre-season friendly and continues to prepare.
