Enzo Fernández, Chelsea’s Argentine midfielder, will be out for the remainder of the season after undergoing groin surgery on Thursday, the English club announced.
“Enzo Fernández underwent successful surgery for a groin problem and will now begin a rehabilitation period, which will keep him out of Chelsea’s remaining games this season,” the club confirmed in a statement.
Fernández has been hobbled in recent weeks due to a hernia and barely had an impact in the rout against Arsenal last Tuesday (5-0), in which he was substituted in the 67th minute.
After undergoing surgery, the 23-year-old will miss Chelsea’s last six games, and is doubtful to play in the Copa América with the Albiceleste in June.
Fernández, world champion with Argentina in 2022, arrived at Chelsea in January 2023 from Benfica for $133 million. Since then he has played 28 Premier League games, scoring three goals.
