Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Remembering Athens

Images of the flames being lit and spreading across Greece brought back memories of other Games. 20 years ago in Athens. Because Laura Manadou is obviously the Olympic champion of August 2004 and the first French athlete a few days ago. Because Tony Estanguet, Olympic canoe champion in Athens, who, after a ceremony from another century, was given the sacred fire this Friday so that it could be transported to France.

Remembering Athens while embracing Paris highlights the extent to which France is already ready to welcome the world, whereas Greece has never been like that.
