He had his revenge and the neighborhood respects itself, like yesterday and today. Every May 1 the streets of El Porvenir are the epicenter of the spiciest street football in Peru. This year the winner was Purito Porvenir, which settled last year’s accounts and claimed champion after losing by the slightest difference to El Cartel de Villa in 2023. Now, they beat El Bondy TF 2-0 with goals from Edu Manco and Roque, in a match that ended up being decided in extra time, and that was characterized by a fan that did not stop cheering for their colors in the final of the World Cup of El Porvenir 2024.

More than 70 years of football on the court is the period that El Mundialito El Porvenir has been contesting. Where? On the sixth block of the Parinacochas jirón, in the El Porvenir urbanization, La Victoria, which closes to experience a football tournament on cement, where neighborhood friends assemble their team, sweat, kick and go in search of glory not only sporting, but economic, since the prize for the winner, this year for example, was the sum of 17 thousand soles. The winner was Purito Porvenir, the team that honors the Victorian neighborhood.

In front, the other finalist El Bondy TF featured Tony Alvarado, a renowned futsal player who belongs to Universitario de Deportes and who in recent weeks has been in the news playing for Persas FC in the Kings League. Alvarado, meanwhile, will play with Peñarol of Uruguay in this season’s Copa Libertadores Futsal, a tournament that will feature the Peruvian team Panta Walon.

“This is a town festival. A Mundialito could not take place in Miraflores or Surco. Here people come to enjoy the taste of Victoriano, which is happy, ball-playing and has good seasoning,” Arturo Sánchez, president of the association in charge of the tournament, responded to El Comercio.

The final phase, with more than 7 thousand attendees in the surrounding area, included other teams that fought to reach the grand final such as ‘La Cachina Lluta’, ‘Santo Domingo La Pólvora’ and ‘El Cartel de Villa’, current tournament champion.

The tournament was created by Emilio Chávez, Mario Chávez and Jorge Falla Martínez, residents of the district, who, given the fervor unleashed by the World Cup that year, decided to create a street soccer championship and customs that follow a tradition.

The importance of the tournament has been such that several legendary soccer players from the country played their first games here. Names as big as Hugo Sotil, Julio Baylón, Teófilo Cubillas, Waldir Sáenz and Christian Cueva passed through El Porvenir at some point, and they enrich the tradition of this tournament.
