The School World Cup Chess 2024, which is based in Peru, began last Wednesday, May 1, after an important opening ceremony at the Miguel Grau Sports Coliseum in Callao.
Important authorities were present at the ceremony, such as the president of the Peruvian Sports Institute (IPD), Guido Flores Marchan, the Minister of Education, Morgan Quero; the regional governor of Callao, Ciro Castillo; the mayor of the Bellavista district, Alex Callán; representatives of the Peruvian Sports Federation of Chess and the International Chess Federation (Fide).
The tournament was declared by the Government to be of national interest through Supreme Decree, as it is a highly relevant sporting event that will bring together the participation of more than a thousand athletes from 20 countries on the five continents.
This contest is in the school category for students from 7 to 15 years old, and will have an important representation from Peru and countries such as the United States, Argentina, Aruba, Brazil, Chile, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, India , Kazakhstan, Mexico, New Zealand, Panama, Paraguay, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Uruguay and Zimbabwe.
