Paris 2024 Olympic Games: taekwondo, track cycling, trampoline… 12 new Blues officially selected

There are 12 of them, and they are now officially members of the French delegation to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The National Olympic and Sports Committee of France (CNOSF) announced this Friday, May 3, the new list of athletes selected to participate in the Olympic Games (July 26 – August 11) in three sports: taekwondo, track cycling and trampoline. In many cases, this is simply a formalization of a choice already acquired through sports.

“A childhood dream come true”

These are taekwondo athletes Sirian Rave (-58 kg), Souleymane Alaphilippe (-68 kg), Magda Wit-Henen (-67 kg) and Althea Lauren (+67 kg). On April 19, the French Taekwondo Federation released the Olympic preliminary selection with these four names. The French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) confirmed this this Friday.

“I am proud and excited to announce that I have been selected to compete in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris! “, posted on Facebook by Althea Lauren, bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics. “Each choice is a real pleasure and the embodiment of a childhood dream. Thanks for your support. »

“Meeting August 9, 2024 at the Grand Palais,” her 28-year-old friend, athlete Magda Wit-Henin of Punch Nancy and also chosen, shared on Instagram. Both women are the current world champions in their category.

On the trampoline, last minute guest Pierre Gouzou

Two new people have been selected for the trampoline: Léa Labrousse (Levallois Sports Club, Hauts-de-Seine) and Pierre Gouzou (Bois-Colombes Trampoline, Hauts-de-Seine). If the choice among the women was not in doubt, the choice of Guzu was made in recent months thanks to the stability of the latter in the World Cup, combined with the drop in speed of Allan Morante, who was also counting on the precious Olympic quota. Labrousse and Gouzou are currently showing promising momentum as they both won silver medals at the recent European Championships in Guimarães (Portugal) in early April.

In track cycling we find the 2022 world speed champion in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Mathilde Gros. The young French track star won the individual sprint at the last Nations Cup in Milton, Canada, in mid-April and will be aiming for her first Olympic medal.

Track cycling blues will be ambitious

Along with him, Marie-Divine Kouame was also chosen. Since France did not qualify for the women’s team race, the management decided not to take a replacement. On the men’s side, where the Blues compete in three sprint events, Sebastien Vigier, Ryan Helal and Florian Grengbo are selected as the starting line-up, as at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, with Melvin Landerneau again as a substitute.

Here the group is also in line with the results of recent years, and the French will be particularly ambitious in team speed, aiming for a medal after their bronze in Tokyo and at the 2023 World Endurance Championships (omnium, American and team pursuit). ) will be announced on June 28 and will usually feature Clara Copponi. Track cycling is scheduled for the second week of the Olympic Games, from 5 to 11 August at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines velodrome.
