Paris 2024 Olympics: fear of ‘no-shows’, those security agents who defect at the last moment

There are tenders that find no takers, particularly for the opening ceremony on the Seine on July 26, and that open the door to a massive reinforcement of law enforcement and military replacements. There is concern that companies in the sector that win contracts will not find enough mining companies to fulfill the contract. And there’s one final cause for concern in the already busy and dire private security situation at the Paris Olympics: “no-shows.”

A term to describe a generally accepted practice in that professional sector. In effect, this means that there will be no security agents assigned to a specific mission on D-Day. Last-minute defections that, if they multiply, could completely destroy the security of the Olympic site. Unforeseen accidents during searches or preventing intrusions into the stadium are causing concern at the top of the state: Emmanuel Macron asked for a reserve of agents to compensate for absences. A figure circulating among authorities is 25% of expected no-shows, the average for all Olympic Games.
