For its part, the Peruvian team, commanded by Roberto Chale, played with Eusebio Acasuzo, Roberto Rojas, Hugo Gastulo, Toribio Diaz, Jorge Olaechea, César Cueto, Luis Reyna, José Velásquez, Franco Navarro, Geronimo Barbadillo and Juan Carlos Oblitas.

Pedro Pasculli opened the scoring for Argentina after a brilliant left overflow from Maradona. However, Peru turned it around with goals from José Velázquez and Gerónimo Barbadillo. At 38 minutes, the Peruvian team had already completed its feat.
