Paris 2024 Olympic Games: Philippe Croizon and the dean of the relay… Relive the fire day in Charente

Having examined the city of Bordeaux the day before, the Olympic flame continued its relay across France and discovered the department of Charente. At the end of the evening, the Angoulême cauldron was lit by Cassandra Burns, a local sports photographer.

The day started this Friday morning in Barbéziers-Saint-Hilaire. This fifteenth stage was launched by Manon Mioulet, who completed the Diagonale des Fous route in Reunion.

Then at 10:30 travel to Cognac, the birthplace of François I. The first porter, Laurent Vital, works at the Hennessy house. In total, 17 people carried the flames in the city. Because since the start of the torch relay, many people have come to see the flames.

In Confolensa, the new oldest participant in the relay carried the flame. 107-year-old Julienne Suri received the honor of participating in the relay. Then it was the turn of Philippe Croizon, an amputee swimmer, to take part in the torch relay.

The day ended in Angoulême, where the French Shooting Federation organized a collective relay. The relay was led by Dominique Aupretre, who took part in the Games in Seoul in 1988. Finally, local sports photographer Cassandra Burns lit the cauldron, still in Angoulême.

Several athletes took part in the relay throughout the day. Such is the case with former national football player Brigitte Henriques, the first woman to become president of the CNOSF, or former judoka Marie Claire Restout-Gasset, or Ndeye Sohna Lacoste, selected to compete in the Tokyo Games in the 4x400m relay.

Tomorrow Saturday the Olympic flame will be seen in Vienna. It will leave Loudun and at the end of the day it will be lit at the Futuroscope in Poitiers.
