Paris 2024 Olympic Games: triathlete Cassandra Beaugrand qualified for the Games after a prestigious victory in Cagliari

Almost two months before the start of the Olympic Games, the Triathlon Blues continue to make their mark! This Saturday in Cagliari (Italy), Cassandra Beaugrand won the World Circuit and officially qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris.

The Frenchwoman won the sprint ahead of Germany’s Lisa Tertsch and Britain’s Beth Potter, the current world champion and winner of the test competition in Paris last August. Emma Lombardi, who led the group until the final straight, finished just behind the podium. This performance, combined with a third place in Japan two weeks ago, puts Iseroise ahead of the World Cup general classification.

“I’m really very happy, I lost at the beginning of the year in Quarteira in the sprint to Lisa (during the European Cup) and I didn’t want to lose today,” Bogrand commented into the organizers’ microphone after the race.

Coming into the lead group after the heat, the two French women were able to cope with the pace set by the bike, particularly by Bermudian Flora Duffy and American Taylor Knibb, who is also a time trial specialist alongside triathlon.

After a very fast transition, Emma Lombardi took the lead in the first few meters of the race and was quickly joined by Cassandra Beaugrand. Then a group of seven girls was formed, which included Briton Beth Potter, Georgia Taylor Brown, Sophie Caldwell, German Lisa Tertsch and Luxembourg Jeanne Lehair.

The one who celebrated her 27th birthday this Friday gave herself a nice birthday present. By finishing in the top 6, Cassandra Beaugrand officially confirms her selection for the Olympic Games, but she also blows the minds of her rivals and establishes herself as a great chance for a medal in Paris.

As for Emma Lombardi and Leonie Periot, who won in Yokohama, but beyond this Saturday (26th), they will have to wait until June 5, the date chosen by the French Triathlon Federation, to announce the composition of their Olympic team.
