French Cup: clashes between PSG and LL fans on a toll motorway, two buses caught fire

Clashes broke out between Parisian and Lyon fans at a motorway toll booth about a hundred kilometers from Lille (north), where the French Cup final is due to take place this evening. Two buses are on fire at the Fres-les-Montaubans (Pas-de-Calais) checkpoint, west of Arras, a source close to the matter told AFP.

The northern prefect announced on social media that there was “a traffic interruption on the A1 motorway in both directions at the Fresnes-les-Montaubans toll barrier.”

Parisian fan buses were able to return to the stadium

As stated in a decree from the Northern Prefecture published on Thursday, PSG fans who were traveling by bus with the fans’ associations were ordered to meet at the parking lot located just behind the toll booth in Fresnes-les-Montaubans to be taken care of. the police, who then had to escort them to the stadium.

According to several witnesses contacted by Le Parisien, the Lyon fan buses were on the other side of the toll gate when the PSG fan buses arrived at the meeting point set by the prefecture. Clashes would have started immediately and tear gas would have been fired several times by CRS officers present at the scene.

Around 7 p.m., after being separated for several dozen minutes, calm returned to the toll booth. Parisian fan buses were able to return to the road leading to the Pierre Mauroy stadium.
