Juan Pablo Varillas qualified for the quarterfinals of the ATP Challenger Tour de Santiago III

The participation of Juan Pablo Varillas (ATP: 127) in Chile continues to be talked about, just a few days after being proclaimed champion of the ATP Challenger of Santiago II. The contest has been developing its third edition in the same southern country and the Peruvian tennis player got into the quarterfinals, after beating Czech Dalibor Svrcina (ATP: 318) in a tight way.

The way to the victory of the first national racket seemed to be certain, since it managed to prevail 6-4 in the first set. Despite starting down on the scoreboard, Varillas managed to recover until the series was equalized 3-3 and took advantage of the fact that his rival lost service to start the brilliant comeback, in a total of 46 minutes.

However, in the second stage, Dalibor Svrcina reacted in a great way and did not miss a step. The Peruvian tennis player lost his serve when he was falling 1-0 and could not recover, leaving with a 5-0 against partially. The story did not change much and the Czech representative sealed the tie in the round of 16 match (in 31 minutes).

Everything was going to be defined in the third set, for which no one was going to allow a mistake, since that could leave them empty-handed. From the service, Juan Pablo Varillas was firm and managed to maintain the advantage he had obtained from the beginning, reaching a momentary 4-1.

However, Svrcina reacted, narrowing the gap little by little, to equalize the score by 4-4. Everything was even, but the national racket showed its best version in the final moments, ensuring its victory and classification by 6-4, after 52 minutes. This test in the ATP Challenger Tour of Santiago III was well resolved.

Now, Juan Pablo Varillas must wait a bit to meet his rival in the quarterfinals: he will face the winner of the key between Chileans Diego Fernández vs. Marcelo Barrios. Let us remember that the Peruvian tennis player is going for his third title of the year, after winning the Challenger of Biella in Italy and Santiago II in Chile.
