Lionel Messi spoke about his retirement: “I think Inter Miami is going to be my last club”

Argentine star Lionel Messi said he plans to retire as an Inter Miami player and acknowledged having “some fear” as he nears the end of his legendary soccer career.

“Today, I think (Inter Miami) is going to be my last club, yes,” Messi declared in an interview with the ESPN network that will be broadcast this Wednesday.

The Albiceleste captain, who is concentrating with his team to prepare for the 2024 Copa América in the United States, has not announced a possible date to hang up his boots.

His commitment to Inter Miami, where he landed in July 2023, extends until the end of the 2025 season of the North American League (MLS).

‘La Pulga’, 37, has not ruled out participating in the 2026 World Cup in North America, in which Argentina will defend the champion crown, although in the past he noted that “it is difficult” for it to happen due to his age.

In a preview of the interview, the Albiceleste captain acknowledges that he does not feel prepared for retirement after two decades of professional career in which he was recognized with eight Ballon d’Or awards.

“My whole life I did this. I love playing ball. I enjoy the training, the day to day, the games. There is always a little fear that everything will end,” she admitted.

The striker, who has never played in the highest category of football in his country, has not yet revealed his future plans but has pointed out that he is interested in both the work of training young people and the possibility of working as a sports director.
