Olympic Games 2024 in Paris: where and at what time to see the flame in Martinique and Fort-de-France, route for June 17

With a touch of nostalgia, the Olympic torch relay will depart from the Antilles towards the mainland and Nice late Monday 17 June. In this 33rd phase, the last overseas department to take center stage is Martinique. The ocean relay, led by Armel Le Cléac, captain of the Maxi Banque Populaire XI, a racing multihull, is coming to the end of its journey.

For the final stage in the overseas territories, the organizers of the Olympic torch relay have planned one of the biggest days yet. The festivities will begin at dawn with the first relay race on the majestic Mount Pele. The flame will be lit at dawn on the top of the mountain at 5:35 am. Ten exceptional minutes before leaving for Lamentin at 7:00.

Within an hour, the second most populous city of Martinique will offer two courses: the first from the Pierre-Samo Aquatic Stadium to the Georges-Gratian Stadium, and the second to the Georges-Gratian Stadium.Martinique Institute of Sports (IMS) from 8:30 to 8:40.

Two short hours to rest, and the relay will continue. Saint Pierre at 14:15 to 15:00. Three-quarters of an hour is dedicated to the memory of the eruption of Mount Pelé in 1902, which completely wiped out the city but spared Belém, 30 km away. This event can be remembered when driving past the old theater and the Memorial of the 1902 disaster in Saint-Pierre, nicknamed “the little Paris of the Antilles”.

The flames rise again Diamond with two routes. The first one will be located at the top Morne Larcher from 15:35 to 15:45, then at Cap 110at the Slavery Memorial from 5:00 to 5:15 p.m.

Between these two diamond courses Schelcher will offer a 25-minute break from 4:15 p.m.

Then it’ll be time to leave Fort-de-France at 17:35 Having arrived the day before at the Malecon pontoons aboard the Maxi Banque Populaire XI, the flame will begin its walk through the streets of Martinique’s largest city through the Louis Achille sports complex. She will then go to Schölcher High School, where Aimé Césaire studied and taught. The Cathedral of Saint-Louis, with its 12-ton steel spire, will glow in flames. Just like the space of the Aimé Cesaire Museum, which was occupied by this emblematic Martinican when he was honorary mayor of Fort-de-France.

The rest will take place in the Schelcher Library, built in the 19th century, and in the Departmental Museum of Archeology and Prehistory. The tropical vegetation of La Savane Park will also create a pleasant lighting effect. The cauldron lighting celebration will take place on the Malecon at 7:05 p.m.
