‘I always have a golf bag with me, even when I’m filming’: Dany Boon to tee off at Olympics

Dany Boone’s summer is going to be very Olympic. On July 2 he will become the final torchbearer of his passage to the North. The comedian, who grew up in Armentieres, on the Belgian border, will be responsible for lighting the cauldron at around 7.20pm on the Champ de Mars in Lille. “I hope the wind doesn’t blow in my face,” smiles the actor, who is currently filming The Hennedrix Family, directed by his co-star Laurence Arne. He admits he was initially hesitant to take on the exercise, which he felt was “only meant for real athletes.” Tony Estanguet, head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee, convinced him.

“At the end of the day, I’m very proud,” he explains to us. This is my region and the torchbearers include people from all walks of life who share the same passion for sport, including a hypochondriac like myself. » Dany Boone, 58 as of Wednesday, exercises “three to four times a week.” From swimming, memories of his youth in the club to the Working Sports of Armentierois; cycling on gravel in the forest; and especially golf, which he has practiced diligently for about twenty years.
