Diego Maradona: Argentine Professional League announced the tribute it will pay for the 61 years of the ’10’

Diego Maradona continues to receive tributes after his death for almost a year and this Saturday, October 30, is a special date: 61 years ago, the world soccer star came to the world and the signs of respect are being made from all over the world. In this sense, the Argentine Professional Soccer League will also be part of these displays of affection and revealed how they will do it.

As stated, the matches of the ninth day, which began on Friday and ends on Monday, will be interrupted at 10 minutes so that players, referees, technical directors and supporters can applaud and cheer for the world champion.

“While this minute of tribute lasts, an iconic image of Diego Armando Maradona will be exhibited in stadiums with giant screens”, reported the Professional Football League. In addition, stanzas of the song by the quartet singer Rodrigo Bueno ‘La mano de Dios’ will be heard through the stadium loudspeakers.

“The League understands that, being Maradona’s first birthday without his physical presence, the magnitude of his figure justifies the exceptionality of the aforementioned tribute for the only occasion”, they reported. In addition, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) delivered allusive armbands and T-shirts to be used by the players when going out onto the field.

The last match of this Saturday day will be the one played in the Bombonera by two teams related to Maradona: Boca Juniors, the club in which he played and of which he was a fan, and Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, the team he directed when he died.

In addition, Argentinos Juniors, the club in which he made his debut, will hold a tribute match this afternoon with historical players from the Argentine national team, including several world champions in Mexico 1986. Sergio Goycochea, Héctor Enrique, Sergio Batista, Oscar Garré, Claudio Caniggia and Oscar Ruggeri, are some of those who confirmed their presence.

Diego Vannucci, Maradona’s godson and manager of the Argentinos Juniors sanctuary who was armed with the donations of the fans after the death of the world champion, said in dialogue with Efe that “it is a nice feeling to take care of Maradona.”

“This was the idea of the board of directors, which contributed ideas to make this sanctuary a reality. First it was outside and then it was decided to do it inside ”, He explained about the sanctuary where fans of the former footballer go. “I am doing good to him, I am taking care of him and he from above takes care of me in some way”he added.

This Saturday there are also many other tributes and activities. For example, in the seaside resort of Santa Clara del Mar, in the province of Buenos Aires, a 13-meter monument donated by the plastic artist Sebastián Martino will be inaugurated.

The event will be attended, among others, by the Uruguayan journalist Víctor Hugo Morales, who worked with Maradona on the De Zurda program and was linked to the star’s history by recounting the emblematic match against England in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
