PSG confirmed the absence of Lionel Messi against RB Leipzig in the Champions League

Lionel Messi will be out for PSG vs. RB Leipzig on Wednesday for the Champions League. This Tuesday, the club released the list of those summoned to travel to Germany and the Argentine’s name did not appear among those nominated by coach Mauricio Pochettino. The absence of 30 responds to physical discomfort.

The attacker, who had already been in pain for several days, had been replaced as a precaution at halftime of that match against Lille by Ligue 1. After that match, the coach of ‘Les Bleus’ estimated that the star “was going to be available for Leipzig ”. But the footballer did not rehearse with his teammates on Monday and, therefore, the picture changed.

For this reason, the Paris Saint Germain medical statement speaks of “A discomfort in the hamstrings in the left (leg) and a pain in the knee after a blow”, without specifying the duration of their absence. In fact, this injury also compromises the presence of the ‘Flea’ in Bordeaux, on Saturday in the domestic championship.

Messi’s injury occurs just a few days before the trip that the athlete will make to join the Argentine team. The team led by coach Lionel Scaloni will clash from next week with Uruguay, in a rivalry with a long history, and then against Brazil, in the South American classic. Both games for the Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

It is not the first time of Messi

This is the third game that the 34-year-old will miss due to injury, after a bone contusion to his left knee also deprived him of two French championship games at the end of September.

In the Champions League, the player from Rosario has scored three goals, including a double against RB Leipzig (3-2) in the first game against the Germans, on October 19.

In an interview that appeared in the daily Sport on Monday, Messi stated that winning a fifth Champions League, which would be the first for the French club, was “one of the reasons” that weighed on his decision to sign this season with Paris Saint Germain, whose main objective is to win that continental cup that is missing from his record.

Lower

Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes (quadriceps), Italian midfielder Marco Verratti (hip) and Spanish defender Sergio Ramos (calf) complete PSG’s list of casualties for Wednesday’s game in Leipzig.

In the case of the former Real Madrid, who has not played any minute with their new colors yet, PSG speaks of a return to training “With the group in the next few days”.

While French striker Kylian Mbappé, absent on Friday against Lille in the French league game (2-1) due to an infection, returns instead to the group of 21 players called up.
