Raúl Ruidíaz and the option for which he will have to continue playing in the Seattle Sounders

A post on his social networks hinted the goodbye of Raúl Ruidíaz al Seattle Sounders. El “They will always be in my heart. I will never forget you” were the words of ‘La Pulga’ towards the fans of the club MLS which he arrived at in 2018. However, it would only have been a season-ending post.

The news of the departure of Raúl Ruidíaz from the Seattle Sounder went around in all the Peruvian media, but from the United States, the picture is different.

Raúl Ruidíaz had a contract until the end of 2021 with the option for 2022. Given the good seasons, the Seattle Sounders decided to continue with the attacker. The portal “Sounder At Heart”, specialized in Seattle information, reported in early November that the MLS team wanted to renew the contract at the same time that it renewed the link with coach Brian Schmetzer.

Even the coach had the presence of the Peruvian attacker for the following season. “He will be rewarded after the finals with a new contract. And that will be great ”, declared the strategist.

According to Alonso Contreras, a Peruvian reporter for the Area Sports Network that covers MLS, Ruidíaz will remain at Seattle for one more season, unless the club decides to sell him.

“In MLS contracts, there is a final year of choice. The club has the power of that option and the player cannot say: ‘I do not want to or I am not going to sign’. ”, He tells us.

“Raúl has to play for the Sounders. The media is given the list of MLS players who are out of contract for 2022 and the only Peruvian is Yordy Reyna. As the option has been exercised on Raúl Ruidíaz, he is not there ”, Alonso tells us.

The news of his dismissal from the club grew due to the interest that they had from Liga MX clubs. Peruvian Telemundo journalist Diego Montalván reported that Cruz Azul had a real interest in the attacker.

Already at the beginning of the year there was talk of that interest -accepted by Juan Reynoso, although he only mentioned being able to have a Peruvian player-, but having a contract with Seattle, Ruidíaz was an unattainable player for the Machine, since he had to pay 8 million dollars for the termination of the contract. Ruidíaz played in Liga MX between 2016 and 2017 with Monarcas Morelia and was the leader of the scoring table of the Apertura 2016 (11 with Dayro Moreno de Tijuana) and of the Clausura 2017 with 9 goals.

That record and 59 goals in 90 games for the Seattle Sounders make him an attractive scorer for any club with big interests. However, apparently for now he will have to stay one more season in the green box.
