Comunicaciones, led by William Coito, is ahead after winning the first leg 1-2 on Wednesday, and is ready to assert his hometown status and win his first international title since 1983.

Coito’s team, which comes from a goalless draw last Saturday in the quarterfinals of the Apertura 2021 tournament for Guatemalan football against Iztapa, began their concentration for the crucial match on Sunday.

The stadium stands are expected to be filled by at least 5,000 fans who were authorized by the authorities to witness the game and support their club. The figure would be higher given that the stadium has capacity for almost 30 thousand people, but the restrictions due to COVID-19 reduced the capacity.

For his part, Motagua arrived in Guatemala on Sunday with the hope of tracing the scoreboard and also with the mission of winning his first cup in the Concacaf League.

According to the coach, the Argentine nationalized Honduran Diego Vásquez, hopes to return to his country with the title just after being eliminated from the Honduran tournament in the semifinals.

The coach assured that his players will give everything on the field to beat Comunicaciones, which together with Municipal are the two most popular and winning clubs in Guatemala. For Motagua, it will be their third final in the Concacaf League, but so far they have not won any of the three disputed.

The 2021 Concacaf League serves as a qualification to the Champions League of the Confederation of the North, Central America and the Caribbean (Concacaf), since the six best teams obtain the passport to the regional club competition.
