“It is essential to defeat Peru at home,” says the president of the Colombian Football Federation Ramón Jesurún. At the close of the Qatar 2022 Qualifiers, each country looks for its best weapons to make its local condition felt and Colombia is one of them. The coffee growers scheduled the duel against the peruvian team for Friday, January 28 at 4 pm in the heat of Barranquilla.

This Thursday the announcement was made public. The reason: “To have one more day to prepare for the game”, in the words of the aforementioned manager. The date is usually played on Thursdays, but Colombia decided to use Friday’s matchday, which is also allowed. In fact, the Bicolor will also have one more day to work on that match, but one less day for what will be the match against Ecuador, the following Tuesday.

And just as it has happened in the last two visits to Peru, the match will be held in Barranquilla, -Estadio Metropolitano- in the afternoon. The Federation of Colombia scheduled the meeting at 4 pm. In the last two visits, Peru played at 3:30 pm in the same venue, both with 2-0 losses (2013 and 2015).

In the qualifying visits to Colombia, Peru has not had good results except for the one achieved in 1997, with the 1-0 victory precisely in Barranquilla with the remembered goal of José Pereda. Also remembered is the 5-0 fall of 2005, in the same city.

Since that 1997 victory, Peru has visited Colombia nine times in Colombian territory and in five of them it played in the late shift, with a balance of one victory and four defeats. Already on the night shift (starting at 6 pm), he could only get two draws in friendlies in four games.
