Manchester City will close out 2021 as the comfortable leader of the Premier League, but that hasn’t caused the team to relax. In the last game of the year, those led by Pep Guardiola faced Brentford and managed to take the lead during the first half, thanks to the good definition of Phil Foden.

The actions arrived at 15 minutes and the London box unleashed great concern in the ‘Citizens’ arc, defended by Ederson. After a corner, a series of rebounds were generated in the small area and Yoane Wissa took the opportunity to finish it off, although Joao Cancelo denied him the goal on the line.

Manchester City had narrowly escaped, but responded on the next play, bringing out the great collective game it has. In the middle of the field, Gabriel Jesus accelerated his pace and touched with Kevin de Bruyne, who finally decided to extend on the right, looking for the speed of Cancelo.

However, the Portuguese side did not take a cross, but decided to take a short break, while the Brentford defense fell back in line, trying to cover all the spaces.

Finally, the ball returned to the feet of Kevin de Bruyne, who wasted no time: he filtered a low pass to Phil Foden in the small area. The young Manchester City player defined with a left leg, just one touch, in front of goalkeeper Álvaro Fernández and managed to inflate the nets, to the delight of Pep Guardiola.

However, from the VAR they decided to review what happened, before a possible offside, but determined that Ethan Pinnock enabled. With this result, the ‘Citizens’ add 50 points and remain at the top of the standings; while Brentford remains in box 14, with only 20 units.
