Reinaldo Rueda on Honduras: “It will be a very demanding rival”

Lima, January 15, 2022Updated on 01/15/2022 05:25 pm

the coach of Colombia, Reinaldo Rueda, stated that Honduras will be a “demanding rival” in the friendly duel that they will play tomorrow ahead of the next double date of the Qatar 2022 Qualifying. As is known, the coffee table will face Peru (01/28) and Argentina (02/01) with the intention of clinging to fourth place in the standings.

For Rueda, Honduras, already eliminated from the fight in Concacaf for a place in Qatar 2022, “is in another project”, facing the future, which poses a greater requirement.

It will force us to examine ourselves”, said Rueda, who praised the work that the Central American rival is beginning to show with the recent arrival on the bench of Colombian coach Hernán Darío Gómez.

“It has been a few months, it has a balanced payroll. They play good football, it will be a good evaluation”, insisted Rueda, who was also the coach of Honduras.

Colombia and Honduras will collide this Sunday in the US city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Both selectors will test players from local clubs.

“The idea is to project the evolution of our players in other leagues, see the moment and balance the design of the payroll for the matches in Peru and Argentina”, explained the Colombian strategist.

He said he trusts that the starting goalkeeper David Ospina can be part of the next call for the qualifying matches.

Ospina underwent an MRI after leaving a recent game with Napoli due to a muscle injury in his left leg.

“Fortunately, the MRI gave a good result. There was no rupture, just a strong contracture. It is necessary to avoid that he plays in the middle of the week and that he does so the weekend before the call“, He said.

Colombia will face Peru on January 28, in Barranquilla, and then will visit Argentina, in Córdoba, on February 1, two key matches to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
