Fans attack Palmeiras players, knife found on the pitch

Scenes of violence during a Copinha match, the equivalent of the Gambardella Cup, between Palmeiras and São Paulo, two rival clubs. Fans invaded the pitch during added time in the second half and attacked the Verdão players. All the players intervened. All this fuss could have gone wrong: a knife was found on the lawn, as seen in the images from the broadcaster SporTv, which show the referee weapon in hand.

The violent nature of the incident did not prevent the latter from taking the decision to go through with the meeting, a decision that was hotly contested in Brazil.
