Google disables real-time traffic data from Google Maps in Ukraine to protect security

The team of Google Maps has disabled the real-time traffic layer in the area of Ukraine for “protect the safety of the people who are there”as sources from the technology company have informed Europa Press.

The American multinational has adopted a series of measures within the framework of the war in Ukraine, among them, has automatically increased account security protections for people in the region. Additionally, users can enable these controls and features to instantly improve their account security.

Other measures that Google has taken before the crisis in Ukraine they are pausing the monetization of Russian government-funded media on their platforms; removal of videos that violate its policies; and the donation of two million dollars in advertisements for those organizations and entities that are informing about the resources that they are making available to users regarding humanitarian aid and resettlement, etc.

Specifically, regarding Youtubethe ability to monetize several channels on the platform, including Russian government-affiliated channels, has been halted, and recommendations to these channels are being significantly limited.

Finally, and in response to a government request, Google has restricted access to Russian television RT and other channels in Ukraine. “We will continue to monitor new developments and may take further action”the company’s sources have told Europa Press.
