Cryptocurrency: A new scam is circulating

Please note that an online scam called “CryptoRom” is currently circulating in Western Europe. Computer security experts from Sophos are warning users of dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, Grindr or Facebook Dating. And for good reason, hackers go through these platforms to try to steal the cryptocurrency of Internet users, reports Phonandroid this Friday.

“These scams are well organized”

Specialists speak of a well-established scam. First, criminals contact their victims through dating apps or WhatsApp. “We suspect that the scammers obtained the contact details of their targets either through their own social media accounts or through compromised websites,” says Sophos researcher Jagadeesh Chandraiah.

Once contact has been established, the scammer will offer his target to earn money quickly thanks to cryptocurrencies. To do this, he will guide her in acquiring cryptocurrencies on a reliable platform. Then, the criminal will ask him to transfer some of these funds to a mobile application. Unfortunately, this scheme does not allow the victims to earn any money. They simply have their cryptocurrencies stolen via this fake application. “These scams are well organized to identify and exploit vulnerable users based on their circumstances, interests and level of ability,” warns Jagadeesh Chandraiah.
