Google is introducing a new feature in its online word processor, Google Docs, which allows you to express reactions to words or phrases in documents through the use of emojis.

This feature, which is already available in other applications such as Slack, Instagram or iMessage, and which WhatsApp has been working on for some time, gives users the opportunity to comment on something without having to type a word or phrase.

As explained by the company on its update website, it is making Emoji 14.0 available to users, a set of emojis, included in the latest version of Google Docs, which has several options to reflect moods.

Likewise, these emojis can also be modified by gender and have gender-neutral options. In this case, Google has specified that gender and skin tone preferences are saved individually with each emoji.

Also, it has announced that administrators do not have access to control this feature, while it will be activated by default in the version for end users, so they will not be able to deactivate it.

To access reactions in Docs, hover over a word in the document and click the ‘Add Reaction’ icon. Once Google Docs preferences have been set, they will carry over directly to Google Chat.

In this way, if an emoji with a certain skin color is chosen, it will also be reflected in the Google messaging service. However, both apps can be used to update emoji preferences.

The feature will roll out gradually and will be available starting April 20 for Google Workspace Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus.

In contrast, users of Enterprise Essentials, Education Fundamentals, Frontline, Nonprofits, and G Suite Basic and Business will not be able to access it.
