Specifically, it will be the day May 11 when the company introduces a change in the Policies section of the Developer Program, to whom will limit the use of the accessibility API.

This indicates that as of that date, no new call recording applications for Android mobiles can be included in the virtual Google Play store and that those that are already part of your catalog they will stop receiving updates.

Google has also clarified this new usage policy in a webinar for developers this Wednesday, where it has also presented the latest changes in the conditions of Google Play.

It is worth mentioning that the company has been working on limiting these permissions for a few years. Specifically, since Android version 6, when it blocked access to real call recording and, later, prohibited call recording through the microphone in Android 10.

However, as reported by Android Authority, applications intended for this use and integrated in the Play Store began to use the accessibility API to register these calls.

With the implementation of these new conditionsthese third-party applications will no longer have that opportunity, something that will not happen in the native call recording applications installed on Pixel and Xiaomi phones.

Thus, starting in May, users will have two options: either they use the applications of the system of their ‘smartphones’ or opt for other call recording ‘apps’ that are not part of the Google Play catalog.
