—What did the brand want to express by showing at the launch of its most powerful cell phone -the Xiaomi 12- an invention as powerful as the Cyberdog?

Our Xiaomi 12 series was the missing link to establish our presence in all smartphone ranges, especially in the long-awaited premium range, which is why we consider it a special and ideal occasion to present the brand’s new quadrupedal robot companion. . These two new models show Xiaomi’s greatest innovations in our smartphone portfolio and the Cyberdog, in turn, is the clearest example of the great capacity that our brand also has in the AIoT portfolio.

—What features stand out from this robot? Is it autonomous? Is it a work robot, assistance robot or just for company?

Cyberdog is an open source robot, that is, it can be modified to comply with all kinds of orders and services, as appropriate to each developer, thus leaving the tremendous opportunity to continue research and development available to fans of the brand and friends. developers. Robotics enthusiasts interested in CyberDog can compete or co-create with other like-minded Xiaomi fans, advancing the development and potential of quadruped robots together.

Characteristic.

The Cyberdog is powerful, precise and agile, it is calibrated with servo motors developed by Xiaomi that give it a wide range of movement. It reaches a speed of up to 3.2 m/s at about 11.52 km/h and can perform multiple actions such as back flips.

Applications

This cyberdog can act as a surveillance device, thanks to its cameras. On the other hand, as a care robot to help elderly or disabled people. It is to be expected that new functions and extensions of this device (or mascot) will appear in the coming months.

We have already seen many interesting use cases from their owners’ side in the past few months. One of the owners installed a mechanical arm on the dog’s back so that he can grab and carry things. Another owner incorporated a LIDAR (laser scanner that measures the distance between the point of emission of that laser to an object or surface) in the product so that it could be sent to places such as caves and tunnels for 3D modeling. We are now exploring more possible use cases together with our consumers.

—What plans do you have for this robot in Peru? Will they display it somewhere? We know you are on tour, what will be your next destinations?

The Cyberdog came to visit Peru for the launch of our new Xiaomi 12 premium series, that was its first exhibition date and we then had it exclusively in our Xiaomi Store in Larcomar, where visitors were able to have a direct approach and be amazed at the capabilities of our quadruped robot.

The next destinations involve Colombia and Mexico.

—In recent years we have seen the presentation of several pet robots, but do you have any studies that tell us when their use will be truly massive?

At the moment, at Xiaomi, the Cyberdog is part of an experimental project, and we only released a thousand units in China for fans, engineers, and robotics enthusiasts to jointly explore CyberDog. In the pre-sale stage, 20,000 interested parties were registered, so the Cyberdog was successfully sold out. As this is an experimental project, mass use is not planned for a very short term, we will continue working to overcome the challenges of mass use of a totally new product concept and make it available on a large scale.

“Is the Cyberdog for sale yet?” How much do they cost and since when could we have them in Peru?

We had only a thousand units for sale in China at a price of $1,540, which were successfully sold out. In the short term, we do not plan to put more units for sale.

The price at which the Cyberdog was launched represents an effort by the brand, as a world leader in technology, to fulfill its goal of making innovation accessible to all, which is why we are pleased to invest in this type of project so that everyone can enjoy a better life through technology. And we’re excited to see where the journey in robotics will take us.
