Mega Drive Mini 2, the new Sega console that recalls its launch almost 30 years ago

sega has announced the launch of its new miniature console, the Mega Drive Mini 2, which will include a total of 50 Mega Drive and Mega CD titles, and will go on sale on October 27 in Japan.

The Japanese company has returned to the miniature console sector after the launch of the Mega Drive Mini and the Genesis Mini in 2019, with the announcement of the arrival of Mega Drive Mini 2which pays tribute to the revision of the Mega Drive launched in 1993, and whose specifications have been detailed later on its website.

This new console will be accompanied by 50 Mega Drive and Mega CD titles. So far, Sega has confirmed the identity of eleven of them. On the Mega CD side, it will have Silpheed, Shining Force CD, Sonic CD, Mansion of Hidden Souls and Popful Mail.

In the case of Mega Drive, Virtua Racing, Bonanza Bros, Shining in the Darkness, Thunder Force IV, Magical Taruruto and Fantasy Zone are coming to this console. Sega has also announced that these 50 games will be joined by as many that will come to the console, but not at launch.

Mega Drive Mini 2 includes a controller, an HDMI cable and a power cable. The controller will go on sale separately the same day of launch at a price of 2,500 yen (about 19 dollars to change) for those who want to focus on the multiplayer component of the included titles.

The size of this miniature version is 55 percent smaller than the original console. Also, with measurements of 120.8 millimeters wide, 32.3mm high and 116.5mm deep, Sega claims that it is an even more compact machine than the Megadrive Mini.

Sega Mega Drive Mini 2 will arrive on October 27 in Japan at a price of 9,980 yen, about 76 dollars at current exchange rates.

THE MEGA CD WILL ALSO ARRIVE IN MINI SIZE

Sega has accompanied this announcement with the presentation of a decorative kit that simulates the appearance, also in miniature, of Mega CDa 1991 console that sold 2.24 million units until its retirement in 1996.

This support will arrive on October 27 in Japan with a price of 4,500 yen (about 34 euros to change) and miniature discs of two Mega CD classics: Virtua Racing and Sonic the Hedgehog CD. In addition, it will also come with a Virtua Racing cartridge. However, Sega has clarified that it is exhibition material and its content cannot be reproduced.
