Apple and Samsung are positioned as the preferred smartwatch brands

The market of Smart Watches o ‘smartwatches’ registered a growth of 13 percent in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period in 2021, with an outstanding leadership of Apple, which accounts for more than a third of it, and the consolidation of Samsung in second place.

Apple repeats in the first quarter of 2022 as the brand of smart watches that has registered the most shipments, with a growth of 14 percent compared to the previous year and a market share that amounts to 36.1 percent (compared to 35, 9%).

The loyalty of the brand’s followers supports this leadership, as CounterPoint Associate Director Sujeong Lim pointed out in a press release, which iidentifies in the younger generation the greater popularity of Apple.

Samsung consolidates the second position, according to CounterPoint data. The South Korean manufacturer has increased shipments by 46 percent between the first quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of this year, capturing 10.1 percent of the market from 7.8 percent a year earlier.

Huawei highlights neither growth nor decline in year-on-year shipmentsand has even lost market share in the period analyzed, going from 8.1 percent in 2021 to 7.2 percent in 2022. While Xiaomi, according to CounterPoint data, has experienced a 69 percent growth in shipments and its presence in the marketwhich reaches 5 percent compared to 3.4 percent a year ago.

By region, shipments have grown in China, where they have experienced an increase of 8 percent, although at the market level it corresponds to 23 percent, one percent less than a year ago.

CounterPoint analysts highlight the case of Europe. This region accounts for 18 percent of the market, up from 21 percent in 2021, but its growth in terms of year-on-year shipments has remained “flat”.

Lim, in fact, predicts that the war between Russia and Ukraine will be noticeable in the results of the second quarter in Europe, both because of the prolongation of the conflict and because of the problems that this is generating at a logistical level.

As a whole, the smartwatch market has grown 13 percent between the first quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of this year. This is double-digit growth that this market is experiencing for the fifth consecutive quarter, despite the doubts that the pandemic generated about economic recovery.
