Angelo Moriondo: Google dedicates a ‘Doodle’ to the inventor of the espresso machine

This June 6, Google decided to honor with an interactive doodle to Angelo Moriondo, an Italian inventor and businessman, who was the creator of one of the most widely used artifacts to date: the first espresso coffee machine.

As detailed Google, moriondo He decides to continue his family’s business legacy and buys two establishments to sell coffee: the Grand-Hotel Ligure in the city center Piazza Carlo Felice and the American Bar in the Galleria Nazionale on Via Roma.

Despite the popularity of coffee in Italy, the time spent waiting for a cup to be prepared ends up making customers uncomfortable; So he thought that brewing multiple cups of coffee at once would allow him to serve everyone at a faster pace, giving him an edge over his competitors.

moriondo he hired a mechanic to build his invention and in 1884 he presented his espresso machine at the General Exhibition in Turin, where he won the bronze medal.

The machine consisted of a large boiler that pushed heated water through a bed of ground coffee, with a second boiler that produced steam that would flash the bed of coffee and complete the brew. He received a patent entitled “New steam machinery for the economical and instant preparation of coffee drinks, method ‘A. Moriondo’”.

Thus, Google celebrates this June 6 the 171st birthday of this inventor, and coffee lovers remember it together.
