Your iPhone can replace your Mac’s webcam

Manzana presented at its event for developers, WWDC 2022, several improvements in the software of its technological ecosystem. Among the novelties highlighted MacOS Ventura, the new operating system for Mac, and the possibility of using the iPhone camera directly as a webcam.

This is the Continuity Camera option, which allows you to use the iPhone camera on an Apple Mac without an integrated camera and is placed on top of this other equipment.

It can be connected to this other device without cables and integrates a series of features highlighted in the image section, such as centered framing, portrait mode or studio light, which improves conditions in low-light spaces.

It also has a feature called deskview, that users can use to simultaneously show their face speaking to the camera and a top view of their desktop via FaceTime.

The technological manufacturer has indicated that these functionalities can be complemented with Handoff, Now available in FaceTime, a feature that lets you start FaceTime calls on one Apple device and easily transfer them to another nearby device.

The webcams that Mac has integrated so far have not had a good reputation for the quality they offer. For this reason, many users had to resort to third-party applications to be able to use their iPhone as a webcam. Instead now, the simplicity of Apple’s solution thanks to its ecosystem pose a striking advantage in this section.
